March Bluum Box Review

I apologize to everyone for not posting since for a while, I do hope everyone is enjoying the contest in my absence however!!

Bluum Box is a monthly mom and child box that is geared towards newborn to around 36 months. The cost is $24.95 per month or $21.00 per month for an annual subscription.

From a recent e-mail:
“We’ve been improving your bluum experience for the past couple of months. Things behind the scenes will go live starting in January.
Better matching – Each product we send will be based on your child’s age, every month. It’s like a personal shopper that guides your growing child!
Bluum for the whole family - Now you can add multiple children to your bluum family tree. Two babies, two toddlers, one of each – you name it, it’s possible.
New format – bluum toddler (13 months +) comes in a bigger box with full-size products and deluxe size samples – sizes you won’t get free anywhere else (bluum baby will soon follow).”

20130324-225740.jpg
Kids Konserve Food Kozy Wrap in Mud – $4.50
This is a really cool product and has already come in handy a few times! I love that it is re-usable and perfect for sandwiches and snacks on the go!

20130324-225747.jpg
Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in Rhubarb – $5.00
I have heard great things about this and am very excited to try it! Have any of you used this before?

So Bluum Box has figured out their assembly and shipping issues, which makes me a very happy camper (especially when I receive the box in the correct month!) The over all value was $43.32 this is well above the price I paid for the box and the kiddo loved everything in it. I also like the treat for mom they included in the box, I am a big fan of lip balm, especially one that imparts a nice color. This box is definitely a keeper!

March Citrus Lane Review

Citrus Lane is customized by your child’s age, You enter general information about your child(ren) and they will create a box for you based on their monthly theme taking your kids age and I believe gender into account. I ordered this box for my 2.5 year old. The price isn’t to bad at $25/month which considering all that is included and the fact that there are not too many boxes for the 18 to 36 month age range. *Clicking through the Citrus Lane links on this page will save you $10 on your order and I’ll get $10 of credit to Citrus Lane both the kiddo and I would appreciate it!!!

20130324-224250.jpg

The Kiddo loves these fruit and veggie pouches in any flavor, they are great treats or on-the-go snacks!

Wee Gallery Temporary Tattoos in Jungle – $5.00

JustFab $20.00 Credit Voucher
Most of the items on JustFab start around $39.00 so this would require a purchase to redeem the value. I am not sure if they ever have a sale on things that would bring the price down around $20.00.

The approximate value of March’s Citrus Lane is $38.44, this is nicely above the $25.00 monthly cost. I still really like my Citrus Lane Subscription and am thinking about renewing at the end of my current subscription!

*Clicking through the Citrus Lane links on this page will save you $10 on your order and I’ll get $10 of credit to Citrus Lane both the kiddo and I would appreciate it!!!

February Bluum Box Review – Toddler

Bluum Box is a monthly mom and baby box that was initially geared towards newborn to around 13months. Just recently they decided to upgrade and expand their audience to toddlers and kiddos older than 13months. They made the announcement in an e-mail that went out in late December:

“We’ve been improving your bluum experience for the past couple of months. Things behind the scenes will go live starting in January.

  • Better matching – Each product we send will be based on your child’s age, every month. It’s like a personal shopper that guides your growing child!
  • Bluum for the whole family - Now you can add multiple children to your bluum family tree. Two babies, two toddlers, one of each – you name it, it’s possible.
  • New format – bluum toddler (13 months +) comes in a bigger box with full-size products and deluxe size samples – sizes you won’t get free anywhere else (bluum baby will soon follow).”

20130313-180717.jpg
Yay! My FEBRUARY Bluum Box is finally here.  they seem to be having some issue with timely shipping ever since they expanded their service, I am really hoping they pull it together!

20130313-180724.jpg
First Peek!

20130313-180731.jpg
This month’s theme is “Vrooom! Stay indoors and play make believe with your toddler.”

20130313-180737.jpg
A little blurb about this month’s theme.

20130313-180750.jpg
Melissa & Doug
Press and Spin Game in Birthday Bear; Number Match and Drawing Game – $5.99
They included another press and spin type game last month, the Kiddo really enjoys pressing the dial and watching it spin, not quite sure how I feel about the redundancy.

20130313-180757.jpg
Play-Doh
Mini 4 Pack – $2.75
This really made me nostalgic! The smell was just as I remembered!

20130313-180814.jpg
Cricket BabyBug Magazine Issue – $3.77 ($33.95 9 issues/1 year)
I didn’t realize right away that this was a magazine type subscription, but it is cute with a lot of short stories and songs and pictures.

20130313-180821.jpg
Mix and Match Opposites – $2.99 (Amazon)
Great book, it is divided in half (top and bottom) with pictures you can align to show opposites (hot & cold, wet & dry)

20130313-180828.jpg
GoGo Squeez in Apple Banana – $1.00
The Kiddo loves these, in fact I think the box was open no more than 5 minutes before he grabbed this!

20130313-180834.jpg
Pure Bars Organic Wild Blueberry Bar – $2.19
The Kiddo liked this a lot too! I may have to look into getting more of these!

20130313-180840.jpg
Dapple Travel Size Dish Liquid – $1.99
I have been wanting to try this company’s products for a while now, I just wished it wasn’t the dish soap, I would have much preferred a surface wipe.

20130313-181314.jpg
BabyGanics Lip Balm and Sunscreen in Apple Berry – $9.99
Yay, more lip Balm! I am starting to build quite the collection, It is always great to have on hand or in a handbag!

20130313-180851.jpg
7 A.M. Enfant $25.oo Gift Voucher ( a minimum $50.00 dollar amount spent is required!)

So Bluum Box is still working out a few kinks after their expansion and upgrades. The over all value was $30.67 (not including the 7 a.m. infant voucher because it requires a purchase) this is not quite as high of a value as last month, but is still above the price I paid for the box. I also like the reading material and the Play-Doh (made me feel nostalgic) they included in the box.  They still need to get the shipping and organization in line, and if they do so soon, I would consider this box is a keeper.

20130222-215044.jpg
This is cute little project to make your own picture magnet through Shutterfly.

20130222-215054.jpg
I love how they include a book each month (Have I mentioned we are big fans of books in this house?) This month’s book was “Henry’s Amazing Imagination”

20130222-215102.jpg
Coupon for $10.00 off at Shutterfly! They have such a wide variety of things you can do with pictures, from hardcover books to key chains and coffee mugs! I am sure we will have no problem finding something to use this on!

Overall we are still impressed with BabbaBox, I do feel that 2.5 is a little young for some of the projects (They do aim for 3 – 6 year olds and we knew this going in), but I am happy to see that ALL necessary items are provided! We will be saving the project for a later date when we need a distraction and are looking forward to see what the box hold in upcoming months!

Product Information Sheet

20130221-211442.jpg

Branam Tooth Gel in Yum Yum Bubblegum – $5.69
We are always happyto try another natural toothpaste! This has no floride and is SLS Free – Mommy is a big fan!

Me4Kidz Little Buddy Wipes – $2.49
These went straight into Mommy’s Handbag! With all of the things the kiddo touches while out-and-about there are a lot of of potential germs he can pick up that could make him sick (and then pass it on to Mommy and Daddy!)

20130221-211451.jpg

Hohner Kids Fish Guiro – $8.00
This is a cute little musical instrument that did not drive Mommy and Daddy crazy within 5 minutes out of the box (unlike electric battery operated musical toys.)

20130221-211459.jpg

Chronicle Books Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee – $6.99
We LOVE books in this house, so this was read the very night the box was opened!

20130221-211506.jpg

Pangea Organics Lip Balm – $12.00
I have tried a few of Pangea’s products before and think very highly of their company, plus lip balm is always a good thing to have on hand throughout the year!

The approximate value of February’s Citrus Lane is $35.17, this is considerably lower than last month’s (which was slightly lower than the previous month’s box,) but still above the $25.00 monthly. I am hoping that Citrus Lane picks back up again (especially seeing that Bluum just upgraded their boxes)  However, I still like my Citrus Lane Subscription and am thinking about renewing at the end of my current subscription!

  • New format – bluum toddler (13 months +) comes in a bigger box with full-size products and deluxe size samples – sizes you won’t get free anywhere else (bluum baby will soon follow).”

At this news, I decided to sign up for a 3 month subscription using a coupon code I bought from Plum District, so each box was $17.00!

20130206-183526.jpg

After 2 shipping delays, my Bluum has arrived!!

20130206-183535.jpg

First Peek!

20130206-183545.jpg

According to the web site, this month’s theme for toddlers is suppose to be “Let’s Make a Memory” However, I received the “Balancing Act” – for 15 months, information card in my box

20130206-183554.jpg

Little Pim French Wake Up Smiling DVD – $16.65

I love that they included this DVD, I wish I would have known about this series a little over a year ago when we took him to France (Yes, I am masochistic making his first trip international!)

Child’s Play, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly – $5.99 (Amazon)

Books are a huge part of this household, we feel the more, the merrier!

Workman Brain Quest-3Y-4Y – $11.95

I love this, although the kiddo may not understand all of the pictures quite yet, he was more than happy to sit with Mommy for 15+ minutes answering the questions he did know, and the other to the best of his ability!

20130206-183604.jpg

Melissa & Doug Picture Bingo – $5.99

LOVE Melissa & Doug Toys, we have a boat load in our house! This was interesting trying to explain the concept of BINGO, he mostly just had fun spinning the wheel!

Mum Mum Toddler Snack in Strawberry – $3.25

Kiddo really likes these, they are now considered a treat! They are organic (which Mommy loves) and have a not too sweet strawberry flavor (yes, I took a bite of my kiddo’s snack!)

20130206-183616.jpg

Boogie Wipes – $3.65

Clean noses are good for everyone. We have noticed a lot of ‘digging recently and have been offering tissues, these will be a nice soft alternative.

StriVectin-SD Intensive Concentrate for Stretch Marks & Wrinkles – $20.25 (Sephora)

I have been wanting to try this, but just couldn’t bring myself to spend the money seeing that I do not have any stretch marks and already use anti-aging products! I do believe this will warrant it’s own blog post!!

So Bluum Box may be working out a few kinks after their expansion and upgrades, but they are totally forgiven!! The over all value was $67.73! Plus I love the educational material they included in the box (it saves me time trying to figure out the best ways to engage the kiddo, an I have been wanting to try some of the products (namely Strivectin, but was unwilling to shell out $135 for a 5 oz tube!) So long as they get their shipping and organization in line, this box is a total keeper!!

20130119-130508.jpg

Our first pair of Safety Scissors!

20130119-130517.jpg

Max Cleans up Book – $3.00

Our kiddo loves books and is familiar with Max from Max and Ruby. They are characters from a Nickelodeon Jr. Show by the same name. We used to watch regularly until Nick Jr. introduced the whole Nick Mom BS (Grrrrr!)

20130119-130523.jpg

Kids’ Clothesline Art Gallery

This is one of two items that fall under the “Create” category. This looks like a lot of fun, we haven’t don this craft yet, but as soon as the kiddo makes anything that may be construed as art or colors in an actual coloring book we will be all over it!

20130119-130547.jpg

Art Supplies Organizer

This is another project in the “Create” category. The kiddos use the provided finger paints and glue stick to decorate and divide the provided box with labels to make their own organizer! This is a great idea and helps to start good habits early (now if only he could do laundry!)

20130119-130553.jpg

Provided box, with paint, labels and directions (glue stick was in the clothesline art gallery)

The Connect part of the box is the Toca House and Fairytale Preschool.

Overall we are very impressed with our first BabbaBox, (We bought a subscription for the kiddo’s cousin as well) I do feel that 2.5 is a little young for some of the projects (They do aim for 3 – 6 year olds and we knew this going in), but I am happy to see that ALL necessary items are provided (read: I had NO glue stick in my house.) We will be saving the project for a later date when we need a distraction and are looking forward to see what the box hold in upcoming months!

The Honest Co. Review

The Honest Co., founded by Jessica Alba and Christoper Galvagin (They just celebrated their First Year this week!) with the goal of providing effective, non-toxic and sustainable baby, child, adult and household items to everyone at an affordable price. While they do have monthly subscription boxes (or bundles) called Honest Diapers Bundle – $79.95, with your choice of size and patterns (yes, patterns!) along with wipes, or the Family Essentials Bundle – $35.95 (you can mix and match 5 bath and body products along with household cleaners – they also have an option to add 3 more products at a discounted rate.)  After such a great experience with the diapers I ordered over a week ago, we decided to jump in and try both subscriptions.

Honest Co

“We are committed to operating with integrity & transparency, and with humble honesty, as we strive to always create better, do better, and be better.”

20130115-171125.jpg

Our two boxes from Honest Company!!

20130115-171132.jpg

OK, so how cute are the inside of the boxes?!? They even read “Thank You” once you get to the bottom!!

20130115-171140.jpg

The first five items we chose for our Family Essentials Bundle were:

*Shampoo & Body Wash in Sweet Orange Vanilla – This smells AWESOME! Do you remember 50/50 bars? Yeah, it’s like that! We used it on the Kiddo and it was nice and light and did not weigh down his hair at all (head full of curls) in fact they seemed higher and and had more body!

*Conditioning Mist in Sweet Orange Vanilla – Again, AWESOME scent! This also made it Really easy to brush through his damp hair and all the ouchy tangles!

*Bubble Bath in Tangerine Dream – This is a very light scent, more of a hint of tangerine. It is a very liquid formula but, unlike other natural/non-toxic brands, I did not have to work for the bubbles (no swishing my hand in the water to work them up) the bubbles were there on their own!

*Laundry Detergent in Free & Clear – We have not used this yet.  We still need to get though the last of our other stuff. I will report back on it’s performance.

*Oxy Boost – Again, still waiting to get through the rest of our name brand oxy cleaner. I really have high hopes for this though!

20130115-171156.jpg

The monthly subscription comes with 6 packages of diapers, the designs we chose are anchors, colorful leaves, dinosaurs, and trendy skulls (the number of diapers per package depends on the size you order) and 4 packages of wipes (which seems like a lot right now.)  After buying our first packages of diapers for a test run, we absolutely fell in love! Not only are they non-toxic and plant based (see their list of attributes below) but they really are very absorbent and the kiddo loves picking out the next “Dry butt!” It makes it so much easier to change a diaper when they are participating, rather than having to chase them down!!

  • Naturally biodegradable & pure plant-based PLA in the inner & outer sheet (NO petrochemicals/oil)
  • Bio-based wheat / corn super-absorbent materials blended with reduced SAP gel
  • Choose from a growing selection of modern & fashionable design options for your girl or boy
  • Secure moisture barrier cuffs to prevent leakage or blowouts
  • Comfortable stretchy, re-fastenable grip tabs
  • Contoured fit & non-irritating feel for the most sensitive skin
  • Premium fit & performance, completely safe, and super-cute designs – definitely not your standard white diaper

Overall, we are very happy with The Honest Co. and our choices !  We will definitely be keeping up with our subscriptions and I look forward to trying other products in their Family Essential Bundle! The diapers we will definitely be recommending to all our parent friends and parents-to-be, in fact, they would be “gift worthy” for any showers you may be attending!!

First Peek!

20130117-103945.jpg

Over the Meadow by Barefoot Books in Paperback – $9.99

This includes a sing along CD, which I think is a really great way to make this book more interactive!

20130117-103954.jpg

Skip Hop Zoo Plate & Bowls Set – $10.00 *this is a combination of individual plate and bowl prices because I couldn’t find the set on their website.

I have been loving Skip Hop for a while now, they carry many innovative but still adorable items for babies, bathing, toys and mealtime. This is a super cute set from their new Zoo line and was inspected by the kiddo immediately after this picture was taken, he loves animal and nummy so this is a great combo!

20130117-104002.jpg

Episencial Soothing Creme  – $11.00

We are always happy to have new body or hand creme to try in these dry winter months, so this will definitely get used!!  This creme is formulated with our parabens or any other of the “bad stuff” Yeah!

Episencial Playful Wash Sample Packet – $0.65

Get $5.00 dollars of at Episencial.com by using code: EPICITRUS

From their website: “Episencial combines advanced skin care technology with Actively Healthy™ ingredients including probiotics, neem oil and botanically-sourced essential fatty acids and antioxidants to enhance skin immunity and defend against daily environmental challenges from water, sun and air.”

20130117-104052.jpg

CleanWell To-Go Disinfectant Spray -  $9.99

This will be awesome to keep in my purse, especially with all the germ covered surface we encounter out and about.  The spray is suppose to kill 99.9% of germs 100% botanically on most surfaces. It does have a nice scent, not to overpowering, and I like that it does not have any harsh chemicals especially if the kiddo is going to be touching those surfaces after I spray!

The approximate value of this month’s Citrus Lane is $41.63, this is just slightly lower than last month’s box, but still well above the $25.00 monthly.  I am really liking my Citrus Lane Subscription and am currently planning on renewing at the end of my 3 months! I will probably have a case of ants-in-the-pants waiting for next month’s box!
